DIY Face Mask Ingredient - Hemp

If there was a Greek god of protein, it would have been Hempulous. He would have been a total babe, completely eco-conscious and awesome, but smell a little weird. Let’s talk about why hemp is so fabulous…

Hemp is a source of all nine essential amino acids and has loads of minerals and essential fatty acids. It’s arguably the cleanest, most sustainable source of protein as well, but why should you put it on your face? Most studies on hemp protein peptides focus on ingesting, so it’s difficult to know if all the wonderful benefits and collagen boosting powers will transfer to the topical application. Because of this, we’re going to go with anecdotal evidence. That ish is awesome on ya face. You know, IMHO.

But what’s that smell? Some people really want to love hemp, but can’t get over the smell. If don’t like the scent, you can add a drop of lavender essential oil (or some other skin loving eo) when you mix up a face mask with it.

Hemp powder as a stand alone skincare product is wonderful as well. Yes, just use the hemp as a powdered cleanser or a mask. I personally love using hemp on its own, and since the earthy, grassy scent isn’t mixing with anything else, you might really like it like that! You’re definitely going to like what it does for your skin. When mixed alone with distilled water, the pH will be around 6, which is slightly higher than you’d want for daily use. If you feel any tightness in your skin after using, add a drop of apple cider vinegar (just a drop) or a low pH toner next time to bring it down.

Happy sniffing!
